Clearing the Browser Cache

You may find that when the site is updated, you don't see the new pages. This is often due to your browser 'cache-ing' the pages. 'Cache-ing' is a technique whereby common pages and images are stored on your computer, so that they don't have to be downloaded each time. This makes the browser work more quickly so that you get a faster response time, and the way it works varies with different browsers.

You can always clear your cache to make sure you are getting the most up to date pages, and we recommend that you do this each time that you are notified of a site update. The way you clear your cache varies from browser to browser, so we have given you some help below for the most common ones.

Internet Explorer

  • Click on the Tools option at the top of your screen and then select Internet Options
  • A window will open showing the general settings. Within this window is a section entitled Temporary Internet files
  • Select the Delete Files button - a confirmation window will appear, and you should select OK
Mozilla Firefox
  • Click on the Tools option at the top of your screen and then select the Clear Private Data option
  • A window will open showing various selected options. You should deselect everything except Cache. We recommend that you also leave the Ask me before clearing private data option selected.
  • Select the Clear Private Data Now button and your cache will be cleared.
Safari
  • Click on the Safari option at the top of your screen and then select Empty Cache. Alternatively you can press Alt-Apple-E (this is the Mac shortcut).
  • A confirmation window will appear and you should select Empty.
