Learning by Looping

A good, quick way to learn a new tune or break is to loop or cycle round short sections, then join the sections together to form larger sections as you play along.

If you haven't learned this way before, we recommend the following method:

  • Loop the first 4 measures/bars until you have learned it.
  • Then do the same with the second 4 measures/bars.
  • Then put them together to loop 8 bars and practice the join.
  • Then move onto the next section of the tune and so on until you have learned the whole tune.

To loop sections of your mp3s you'll need a special player. There are many of these available; you may already have QuickTime Pro, which can also loop sections of the videos, or we can recommend a free player called Audacity. Both of these applications work on both PCs and Macs.
