Hi !
I currently use Martin Acoustic SP Medium strings (MSP4200). What strings would you recommend for flatpicking?

John Pearse 80/20 bronze - light guage. Tried others, this is still my favorite.

I have that killer sweat which kills even 'coated' strings, so I've settled on d'Addario regular bronze with a 13 top (medium) on the grounds that they're inexpensive enough (ordering online) to change them fairly often. I tried 12 top, but it doesn't put up enough of a fight! I had to move away from Martin strings due to breakages - the d'Addarios almost never break.

Anyone tried These?: http://www.pirastro.com/pirazzi/home1.html
-If not, you should! Last as long as coated strings with no coating and fantastic sound and playability. Their electric guitar strings are also great. I just wish they could make resophonic strings...

Iv tried a every string i could find, iv settled down with Elixer lights, They are a coated string and seem to never lose their sound, they do overtime loose their feel but i have gotten 3 times the life out of these strings than others. They are a little expensive, but improved the sound of my guitar alot! If you are having trouble with strings breaking, iv been there too, i can remember one night playing a show and breaking 3 strings, it gets embarrising and expensive. I corrected this problem by changing my bridge saddle, to an artiffical ivory one this corrected the problem.

I find that I don't really care for the feel or tone of the coated strings that I have found. My hands are kind to strings and I will often put brass wound on my guitar so that they contrast with the tone of the other guitar player in my band. The brass corrodes a lot faster than bronze, but it's tolerable to me. If I'm pleasing myself I often default to DR bronze, either meduim or heavy gauge, depending on whether I am using an alternate tuning or not (I play in a Celtic band.)

I haven't tried the Pirazzi. I'll look into it.

The other player in our band has that killer sweat and funks his strings up in a matter of hours of playing. I slipped him a kit of that GHS Fast Fret stuff and it helps a lot. I use the Fast Fret on my reso and like it a lot better than coated strings, though the feel is similar. I also use stainless strings on the reso, and so string life with respect to corrosion is kind of a non-issue. The stainless lasts at least three and maybe more than four times as long as bronze and they fail mechanically long before they get funky.

Hey everyone. My name is Mike. Brand new to the site. I love it. I thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth. I have to agree with Josh, Elixer is by far my favorite string. I use medium nanoweb on my Guild. The tone and volume is great. I play (at home) every day, and I get about 3 times the life out of the Elixers over the Martins.
