Hi,

Can anybody give me some advice on buying a mic or mandolin pickup for home recording? I've narrowed it down to either the L.R. Baggs Radius-M or a Sony ECM stereo microphone. Basically, I just want to lay down my own mandolin track to accompany the college lessons as practice before playing with real musicians.

Hi Jon

I've emailed Matt Flinner to see if he has any good advice.

Hi,

After talking to a guy from my local Dawson music shop I went for a Samson C01U USB Studio Condenser mic. It works fine with the Audacity recording software I use on my Linux system. I can import the learning tracks from the college and then record my own Mandolin track. It is an excellent way of getting the timing of a song.

Many thanks for your feedback.

Jon,

How do you attach the condenser to the computer?

Thanks,

Hi,

This particular condenser mic connects directly to a USB on the computer.

Jon
