I downloaded the free lesson--"Little Girl In Tennessee"--and think the package is great. My only difficulty is that there is no indication (unless I missed it) of which fingers of the right hand are used for each note. That would be very helpful to me as a beginner because I'm sure I'm not making the best use of my right hand fingers! Is that not normally included in our tabs?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave - fingering isn't always included in tab, and for that reason, one of the video downloads included in the lesson is a close-up of the right hand showing the fingering.

Hope that helps

Fingering I think is like a signiture. You use the fingers that are the most natural to use or are the most logical. When learning nothing takes the place of expierience and that only comes one way, just doing it. So when your learning from a music sheet just mark it up in your own words, fingering or the thing that you need is the most important.

Thank you for your comments. I did watch the video, but it's sometimes hard to tell what's going on! I found a document on line, though, published by Pete Reichwein that has been helpful. He also says that you should use whatever fingering feels natural at first, but adds that it's important to eventually try alternating fingers and try varying your fingering to expand the possibilities of what you can do. Makes a lot of sense--I guess I just needed confirmation that I wasn't doing something stupid!

Thanks again. Hope to keep checking in for more tips and wisdom!

I have it on rather good authority (Rob Ickes himself at a recent workshop in Munich) that right hand fingering in lessons is, um, a bit overrated. When I asked him if it was ok to "go with the flow" rather than trying to follow the indicated RH fingering to a tee he replied that it's fine to use the fingering that comes natural.
Only exception is scales. When playing scales you should be careful to alternate thumb-index or thumb-middle so as to spread the load evenly, and not try to do it all with your thumb.

Hi HeldvomFeld - if you decide to write down the fingering, please send it in to us - we may be able to post it as a suggested fingering.

Hi,

i have done the fingering for the easy version so far. I also noticed that there is a difference between the tab and the way the instructor plays it towards the end. I also didnt write it down exactly as played but changed the RH-fingering in one or 2 places. Do you still want me to send it in?
