Hi Andy
I was wondering if you could find out what basses the instructors use to record. I would think some of the players might use laminated or carved for different recordings depending on the sound they are looking for.
I just picked up my Upton Hybrid (carved top, soild maple ribs and laminated back. I ordered it this past summer. Uptons are now completely hand crafted in Mystic, Conn. The bass sounds great. I was wondering if Mark, Missy or Bub have heard of or played one of these basses.
Thanks Rob

I have been playing upright bass for about two years nows. I currently play a palatino which was ok for learning on. I ordered an Upton hybrid bass last July and hope to pick it up a week from Tuesday. They are located in Mystic, Conn.
I have been playing guitar since I was nine years old which was forty some odd years ago. I played mostly country for most of that time. I went to a bluegrass festival three years ago and was hooked. After watching Missy, Bub, Micky Harris and Marshall play on stage that was it for me.
I signed up for a bluegrass camp next July which is called the Augusta Heritage located in Elkins, WV. The instructors for bass are Missy Rains and Mike Bub. I look forward to attending and comming back a little smarter.

Yep,
Man, in that mix it's clear as a bell that it's not what I thought. Must be another instrument or combination of that gives me the imppression of what I thought I was hearing. I think I better check my coffee, my wife is the one who makes it you know. Thanks again for taking the time to put the additional mix up.

First off, hello
I have a qustion with requard to a bass run that Missy Rains performed on Sunny Side of the Mountain for Bluegrass College. The run leads the banjo into the solo. The run sounds like a standard run from the five chord to the one chord except it sounds like she flats the seveth (Mixolydian?). To my ear the run really gives the banjo a jump start out of the shute. Also seems to lift the tune and give the banjo solo more energy. I guess I'm asking if I'm hearing this correctly.
